Sublime Comporta

Comporta, Portugal

Magical. Unspoiled. Creative. Sublime Comporta is nestled on a 17-acre estate surrounded by undulating umbrella pine and cork trees, wild sand dunes, rice fields, and over 60km of pristine, white sand beaches. It’s often compared to the Hamptons of the ‘70s and has become somewhat of a ‘creative hub’, frequented by artists, designers, and architects.

The hotel offers a variety of accommodations across multiple buildings, enhancing guest privacy. Guests can select from the Owner’s House, Guest Suites, Bio-Pool Suites, or choose among cabana-style villas with 2 to 5 bedrooms, all of which include a private pool, fireplace, and terrace, all capturing the essence of the ‘Comporta style.’

The story

Husband and wife duo, Gonçalo and Patricia Pessoa, dreamed up Sublime Comporta over many years and finally realized their vision in 2014. Gonçalo is a former airline pilot but has now retired his wings to care for the couple’s hotel—a mark of their dedication and love for the property.

Your stay

Drift off to a symphony of frog chorus at one of the hotel’s nine cabanas built overlooking one of Europe’s largest biological pools. The bio-pool suites include private terraces that allow you to plunge straight into the freshwater. Aquatic plants are used in place of chemicals which means you get to enjoy the authentic ecosystem created.

How to spend your time

Days are best spent relaxed and low-key – afterall, that’s what Sublime Comporta is all about – but if you do feel like getting out, horseback riding is one of the most romantic ways to explore the sand dunes, rice fields, and beaches that surround the hotel.

Fall in love with

Seaside and countryside meld together at Sublime Comporta, offering the best of both worlds. The Food Circle is an open garden where the food you see on your plate grows and the hyper-local fare is cooked on an open fire and at the Beach Club order the catch of the day, prepared right in front of you!

Expect the unexpected

By the side of the road on the way to Carvalahl, you might find Senior Julio and his chests of undiscovered treasures. Infact, his finds are so good, many hotels and restaurants keep close ties for unique decoration pieces.

The best time to visit

Open year round, any time is worthy of a visit but our favorite months are April, May, June, September, and October when there’s less crowds and more space to enjoy all the outdoor activities.
