Passalacqua — Lake Como, Italy

Overlooking the village of Moltrasio, the historic estate has hosted some of the world’s most prominent individuals in music, art, and politics, from Napoleon Bonaparte to Bellini and Winston Churchill. Taking inspiration from the past, Passalacqua provides its guests with the warmest hospitality, creating a place where guests can unwind and appreciate the “simple” things. From fresh-cut flowers upon arrival to the open kitchen providing personalized options for all guests, all while enjoying the stunning views of Lake Como.

The story

Passalacqua, sister property to the lake’s Grand Hotel Tremezzo – one of the world’s most iconic hotels, is the latest passion project for one of Italy’s most renowned hotelier families – Paolo, Antonella, and Valentina De Santis. Being rooted in Lake Como for generations, the family is reviving the estate and gardens back to its grandeur with love, respect, and thoughtfulness, celebrating the charm of “Vivere Italiano” and sharing the beauty and wonders with a new 21st-century audience.

Your stay

Each of the 24 accommodations is individually designed, with hand-chosen details featuring meticulously restored frescos, spectacular high ceilings, stunning views of the garden or the lake, and the most extensive suite on Lake Como with two floors spanning over 3,000 sq. ft. The De Santis family honors the villa’s history while creating a fresh and forward-thinking feel throughout the property.

How to spend your time

During your stay at Passalacqua, guests get to experience the true essence of Lake Como. A romantic sunset cruise on one of the property’s vintage boats with a captain who will take you on an unforgettable tour – pointing out all the famous villas sharing the secrets of the lake. Back on property, enjoy a cocktail in the rose garden under the stars as the chef prepares any dish you desire.

Fall in love with

As a family-run business, the De Santis family offers the warmest of welcomes and impeccable hospitality Italy is known for. Passalacqua celebrates the best of Italy – From their restaurants to the charming rooms, with glassware from Murano, and silks from Como; every element of the estate honors Italian authenticity and excellence.

Expect the unexpected

If walls can speak, they will reveal all the extravagant historic events that have occurred on the estate – the vast grounds have a network of hidden tunnels that can take you directly from the main villa to the lake without having to walk outdoors! There is no set restaurant on the property – You can have your meals indoors underneath vaulted ceilings with magnificent views of the lake, among the olive groves, or even on the dock – as you wish!
