Our favorite season would be the fall, where guests can take the magical views of the forest changing colors. Located in Italy’s South Tyrol, near Germany, the property sits on the site of a 1912 hotel that was once meant to become a sanatorium for the Austrian monarchy however was never completed due to the onset of World War I. Stefans hotelier father, Alois Hinteregger, discovered the historical building 22 years ago and envisioned the location’s potential. FORESTIS’s founders, Stefan Hinteregger and Teresa Unterthiner, have passionately worked into transforming the hotel into one of Europe’s most unique wellness properties. Teresa and Stefan took the vision and transformed their shared passion into a reality with local architects and artisans to bring the 100-year-old structure back to life, adding three towers of suites and the vast glass-and-stone spa, all overlooking the Dolomite peaks.
FORESTIS is known to have spectacular views from every room. As soon as you enter the hotel, the main heritage building houses an intimate lobby, cozy lounge (with fireplace), and 16 suites & rooms. Located within three towers, the 44 incredible tower suites connect to the main building through an underground tunnel. The tower suites have floor-to-ceiling sliding windows, light wood, and spacious balconies, merging guests into nature with cinematic views of the breathtaking Dolomites!
The top floors of the outer two towers consist of two amazing penthouse suites, the penthouse’s bedroom has a glass front that extends across the entire width of the bedroom. Designed with natural elements, the penthouse’s minimalist style offers luxury, privacy and tranquility at the same time. On the upper floor there is a private pool with sun loungers with a pine wood sauna and a shower, overlooking the breathtaking Dolomite peaks. Hence, guests enjoy the most beautiful view from their beds indoors…or outdoors (yes, they can set up a bed on the outdoor terrace!)
The “Forest Cuisine” is a dining experience like no other – a dip in Mediterranean culinary tradition that meets Alpine ingredients. With South Tyrolean and Italian dishes, the venue is led by Chef Roland Lamprech, who strives to run a fully organic and sustainable cuisine with an earthy menu using fresh ingredients from the surrounding forest. The restaurant, designed by South Tyrolean Armin Sader of hotel architecture firm Asaggio, spans two floors. The lower floor, which opens directly to the adjacent terrace, has a design of semi-circular booths, giving diners privacy and an exceptional view of the breathtaking Dolomites.
